Walk in interviews
are becoming quite common these days as a means of entry level recruitment
.organizations can attract a large number of local candidates to such
interviews with minimum effort. The candidates too like interviews where no
application forms have to be filled in advance.
As in any type of interview, unless you do your homework, you will end up
wasting your time at a walk in interview. These interviews have a set of rules
and protocols all their own .for instance, they are designed to process a very
large number of applicants in a very short time. Therefore, employers evaluate
candidates quickly, based on appearance and first impression. You must know the
correct techniques to create the right impression in the short exposure time
that you will get as a candidate .otherwise you will not succeed in walk in
interviews.
INTERVIEWS
Usually a full 50% or
more of the candidates at walk in interviews are window shoppers. They do not
serious often, they are just browsing to see what is available in the
marketplace. In order to stand out amongst so many not so serious candidates,
you require a fairly aggressive and well planned approach.
Types of walk in
interviews
There are three basic types of walk in interviews that you may encounter. Watch
and listen carefully from the side so that you can determine the interview type
and adjust your approach accordingly. Here are the 3 basic types:
Screening interview
This interview lasts
no more than two to 3 minutes and is usually conducted by companies that are
mainly interested in gathering resume and initial impressions. Your strategy
should be to quickly point out the key areas in your resume that match the jobs
requirements. Pay close attention to the questions being asked to candidates
who are interviewed just before you so that you can not the job requirements
and match them with your areas of strength .you should position yourself in the
line so that you can overhear at least 2 or 3 interviews before your turn comes
Mini interview
These
interview usually last 5 to 10 minutes and are conducted in a cabin. Be
prepared to give full details of your background and highlight your strengths
in relation to the job requirements. At this stage, you must be prepared to
elaborate and explain all items that are covered in your
resume, relating to qualification, experience etc .ask the interviewer form a
business card and inquire what the next step will be.
